New Paintings :)

So... stayed in my studio the other night for hours... I got off of work super late and was not feeling to excited about anything, and I had all these ideas going on in my head so I went to the studio, and just started to work on the ideas... This is what came of my multiple sketches, thoughts in my head, bubbling emotions, found pieces I could not part with (this happens a lot to me - I have a box in my studio full of found pieces and scraps of things that I just can't part with and am determined to make a project out of them) but anyways... here they are...

On February 15, 2013 Loft 594 is pleased to present the opening of
“Others,” a group show curated by Loft 594’s Resident Curator,
Margaret Coleman. This is not a “birds-of-a-feather” kind of show.
Avoiding homogenized genre, the work is not an over-simplified
product. The artists are engaged, the practices diverse. The work is
present. Adopting a collaborative curatorial model, “Others” invites
artists whose works and lives subvert dominant ideology to participate
in a dialogue exploring narratives of difference.

The artist mirrors, centralizes, expands, births, exposes, illuminates
and parties while painting (Claudia Schwalb). The artist translates,
self prints, channels her Central Asian ancestors (Laimah Osman).The
artist interrupts the waste stream; attempts to refrain from plastic
(Bill Basquin). The artist lives in a tent on a sculpture farm, making
huge metal sculptures that require a crane (Ronda Phipps). The artist
makes waves; speaks on panels about Chinese iron casting in
relationship to five-element medicine (Anna Shapiro).
The artist is a one armed, queer, assemblage artist, painter, curator
& stuffed animal maker/enthusiast (Al Benkin). The artist shows
herself through acts of hiding and seeking (EunSun Choi). The artist
uses what she has in her immediate surroundings and documents the
subconscious (Emma Gluckman). The artist makes zines, collaboratively
runs a printing press (Lantz Arroyo). The artist dances for her own
satisfaction, (Manola Maldonado).

The show includes opportunities for further exploration of the work,
including a Fondue and Flannels Afterparty, following the opening
reception on February 15 (Opening Reception 6-8 pm, Afterparty
8-10pm). Bring a flannel to silk screen!

A panel discussion with the artists will take place on Sunday,
February 17, at 7 pm.

A corresponding film evening featuring the work of Bill Basquin,
Samuael Topiary, Lindsey Wolkowicz, and others will begin at 7 pm on
Sunday, February 24. All events, with exception of the opening
reception, ask a $5-10 donation.

Help the Victims of Hurricane Sandy

Hi everyone, as you all already know Hurricane Sandy devasted many parts of NYC, people have been staying in shelters, with friends, family, etc. because their homes have been flooded, damaged or are out of power. So lets help them!! This is the time to go through all your  things and anything you have that you would like to donate is appreciated! The Corcoran real estate office I work for in Williamsburg (241 Bedford Ave. at North 4th) is taking donations, anything from food, to blankets, clothing for children and adults, anything you want to give! We have coordinated to have these items taken to the victims of Sandy. All the other Corcoran offices in Brooklyn are also taking donations. The link attached has the addresses of all the offices. Please take some time to help, its these times when as a community we need to get together and help each other out in any way we can because that's the whole point of living in a community so that we can depend on each other and help each other out. Thank you!!!

Scrap Fabric Bath Mat

So... I had a ton of scrap fabric that I couldn't really make anything with... And one day I was going through all my crafting books and found my Big-Ass Book of Crafts by Mark Montano, and inside I found the best idea ever for crappy scrap fabric pieces. In the book there are directions on how to make a "scrap-fabric leaf rug" :) And so... my scrap fabric turned into an awesome bath mat, which I might add my kitties love to play with!

Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino Project

I designed this poster for my Typography 2 class at Pratt Institute, it is meant to describe the city of Olinda, one of the cities described by Italo Calvino in his book Invisible Cities. 

Olinda is a city that is constantly growing and as one Olinda grows, there is another Olinda inside of it growing, and inside that Olinda, another Olinda, and so on and so on. 

Really cool story, kind of reminds me of Horton Hears a Who! by Dr. Seuss, where there is the tiny little town of Whoville which lives inside a tiny little flower :) One of my favorites! 

The poster is a make believe calendar of events for the city of Olinda.

New Pieces to NYC Cityscapes Collection

So I have been working on some new pieces to add to my collection of New York City Cityscapes. I am so inspired by the city, the people, the movement, the colors, everything about New York has a way of inspiring me.

Here are some inspirations put on paper :)


This is the famous Restaurant in Seinfeld :) It's a great little street on 112th street in the Upper West Side and the food at the diner is delicious, definitely a must go to especially if you are as big a fan of Seinfeld as I am.

The Manhattan Bridge - recognizable because it is the blue bridge that connects FDR Highway on the Lower East Side to Brooklyn. The bridge takes you straight into the heart of DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) one of the cutest, trendiest neighborhoods in Brooklyn. It only stretches a few blocks, but it is a few great blocks with its beautiful cobblestone roads, and its amazing views of Manhattan, the Manhattan Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge, DUMBO is definitely a stop that should be marked on your map. You can go to DUMBO for a stroll and then take a water taxi back into Manhattan or you can come in and spend the day, there are lots of shops, cafe's and restaurants all within the few blocks that make up this great neighborhood.

 The Upper East Side, actually to be exact, 81st street and 2nd Avenue. So much to explore in this neighborhood, also known as Yorkville. Second Avenue must be one of the best Avenue's on the island of Manhattan, or maybe I'm just biased because I lived there and anything and everything you need is one block away. To name a few of my favorite spots in this neighborhood, H and H bagels right on 2nd in between 81st and 80th, these are the nicest people you will ever meet and the flow of people coming into this place is crazy! At ALL hours of the day! Carl Schurz Park, you just have too walk to the East River and 81st street and you get to this amazing little park that is right on the water and has a great Promenade to walk on, or just sit and read a book. Alice's Tea Cup, on 81st in between 3rd and 2nd Avenue, delicious scones and veggie sandwich :) And so many other great places, these are only a few of the wonderful things Yorkville has to offer.

Bleecker Street in the West Village, right by Magnolia Bakery. So, I feel everything has already been said about Magnolia, but I will say it again, SOOOOOO GOOOOOOD!!!!! I HEART CUPCAKES! Magnolia Bakery and Crumbs are my favorite cupcakes EVER! I could eat one every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I especially love this Magnolia Bakery location because it is in the heart of the West Village and I can eat my cupcake guiltlessly since the streets inspire me to walk for hours as I indulge in this sweet and creamy concoction of flour, sugar, butter and whatever other amazing ingredients that make up this little piece of heaven.

Upper East Side, 62nd street and 1st Avenue.
A great area in the Upper East Side and a personal favorite because of the awesome Bed, Bath and Beyond, which always has what I need and has the most friendly staff, and is never as full as the one on 6th Avenue. And my second favorite part of this area in the Upper East Side is the Food Emporium which is located right under the Queensborough Bridge, it is huge, and has these amazing columns and incredibly high ceilings, it feels as though it should be a museum, except it is just this incredible supermarket where you will want to buy everything. It is expensive so pace yourself, but the extra bucks you will spend are worth it just to have this amazing supermarket experience under a bridge in New York City. And you can buy prepared food, and eat it on the second floor, which has lots of tables and chairs and it is never crowded.
